Mrs. Jamey Akien
Mrs. Jamey Akien is the director of Camp Logos.
Jamey is a native of Charleston, South Carolina. She was raised in a loving Christian family full of preachers and teachers and was blessed to have received Christ Jesus as LORD at a very early age. Jamey would describe her early educational experience as “wonderful” as she had tremendous opportunities for developing her God-given gifts. From academic competitions, to ballet, to acting, to playing instruments, to the very Word of God, she delighted in learning.
She completed high school in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania where her family had moved to become urban missionaries. Jamey received a full academic and music scholarship to Florida Agricultural and Mechanical University where she was very active in Campus Ministry and the Baptist Collegiate Ministry. During this time, she served in inner-city missions in both Chicago and Philadelphia.
While on internship in Minnesota and attending a church conference, Jamey was challenged by God, through the preaching of the Word, about the direction of her life and career and was utterly convinced that she was called to be a teacher. Shortly thereafter, Jamey graduated from FAMU with honors with a B.S. in Mathematics (with a focus in Actuarial Science) and a B.S. in Business Administration but promptly continued on (spurred by her conviction) to receive a Master’s degree in Elementary Education from Florida State University.
Jamey knew that God had specifically equipped her to teach, and in time, to open a Christ-centered school to equip others. In the meantime, Jamey sharpened her skills an a educator and loved on kids by teaching for almost a decade in the public school systems in both Leon County and Palm Beach County, Florida as well as at Florida Virtual School. Mrs. Akien has taught, elementary, middle, high-school and in adult education and has been recognized as Teacher of the Year multiple times. Her greatest honor, however, she hopes, will be in glory when she bows before the throne of God and hears “good and faithful servant, well done”.
Mrs. Akien is founder and Executive Director of Logos Education Services LLC, an education services company that provides tutoring, homeschool evaluation, testing, and educational consulting. Jamey is married to an amazing man of God, Toi A. Akien and she has the privilege of homeschooling their daughter, Truth.
